ARCHAEOLOGY FILMS IN ISRAEL
Israel offers a wealth of archaeological locations and findings match by only a few countries. New sites are discovered every year, and new excavations in well know sites often yield fascinating findings. Israel is the home of Biblical archaeology, and many sites reflect and support stories from the Bible and the New Testament.
Highlight Films, established in 1998, has vast experience in the production of archaeology films in Israel. With over two decades of experience, we have collaborated with leading international broadcasters such as the BBC, National Geographic, Discovery, and PBS, providing comprehensive production services that encompass research, filming, and post-production.
Our extensive portfolio includes filming and producing many archaeological films in Israel. We have been documenting significant archaeological excavations across Israel, Palestine, and Jordan. Notably, we captured the excavation of King David’s Palace by Dr. Eilat Mazar and produced in 2012 the IMAX documentary “Jerusalem,” the first IMAX film to be produced in Israel. It showcases various archaeological sites throughout the region.
Throughout 2018-2019 we collaborated with National Geographic and the Israel Antiquities Authority in a special project in the Judaean Desert. Several teams of Archaeologists scanned the desert for any artifacts, specifically scrolls, from 2,000 years ago. That was one of the largest and most encompassing excavation project ever to take place in Israel, and our crews were there to document it.
So our deep-rooted connections with local authorities, such as the Israel Antiquities Authority and the Palestinian Ministry of Tourism, enable us to secure necessary permits and access to sites efficiently.
At Highlight Films, we offer a full spectrum of services tailored to the unique demands of archaeological documentary films. Our team of seasoned researchers, production managers, and camera crews possess extensive experience in the field, ensuring that every project is executed with precision and cultural sensitivity.
Permitting active excavations may be a bit complicated. We usually need about two weeks of heads-up in order to secure access to the site. Many archaeological sites are located off-road, and in several production we transport the entire team and gear in 4*4 vehicles.
